About The Artwork
'During the early summer of 2020 my garden became a place of calm and respite, away from constant stream of pandemic news and the ever-changing lockdown measures.
I began to excavate the heavy yellow soil in my garden to see if I could make a clay object from start to finish. The resulting image reflects this short and sunny period of handling, shaping and making objects from the earth beneath my feet. Although I made some objects that I fired in the garden, they became incidental to the different processes I employed; the digging, sifting, draining, wedging and handling became a hands-on and purposeful antidote to the chaos going on around me and reflected my feelings of fragility and impermanence.`'
