'This necessary limitation of movement during the pandemic has made it hard for many to remember what their broader community looks and feels like: the people whose first names we might know, but aren’t sure enough to call more than ‘hello’ to, the people we had recognised at the same supermarket at the same time each week and cheerfully smiled at, those who we sort of recognised in coffee shops or in parks as so-an-so’s Mum or next door neighbour and passed some comment about the weather with. The chance of seeing many people we even vaguely recognised has diminished so to draw my community, I’ve looked at the roads around mine on Google Street view and found my portrait subjects there instead. It’s enabled me to draw my community, allowing them to virtually come together, despite not seeing any of these people face to face.'
