About The Artwork
'Inspired by the landscape of my home between the Norfolk Broads and Suffolk Coast, my practice seeks to resurrect the connection between mankind and nature, by using found objects and organic materials to emphasise and question our modern relationship with the natural world. My work investigates, preserves and celebrates the land, before it is lost by in-attention to an expanding, artificial global culture.
With the eastern philosophy wabi sabi at the core of my practice, I embrace the impermanent, imperfect and incomplete nature of life and endeavour to shine a light on the beauty of change, simplicity and ‘insignificance’.
These land art works, situated in various locations local to my home were created spontaneously with materials offered by the place; they were an intimate act with nature, celebrating its beauty and ephemerality, exploring a balance between the organic and the geometric. The work existed in and dissolved into the land it was born from.
I have been walking the same route every day during the pandemic and spent a lot of time with the land. The experience of making is important to these works, a form of meditation and connection; it’s amazing how, when stopping, slowing down and spending time in one place, nature carries on around you. I have seen things I otherwise would have walked past and encountered many deer foraging for berries and dancing through fields.'
